She makes the move as her latest book, Look Alive Twenty-Five , which debuted atop the NYT hardcover bestseller list, this month topped the Publishers Weekly mass market paperback bestseller list. We spoke to Alex Evanovich about writing Troublemaker , her lifelong love of comic books, and thoughts on mother-daughter collaboration.

BookShelf: Troublemaker continues the hit Alex Barnaby series in graphic-novel form. How did this project come about? Alex Evanovich: Janet and I have always loved comic books.

To this day we still have a subscription to Uncle Scrooge Adventures. Writing a comic book was sort of a lifelong dream come true for us. BookShelf: What is your background in comics and graphic novels, and how do you apply that to Troublemaker? Alex Evanovich: Many years ago I used to make a comic for the site called Batster.

It was a takeoff on Batman, but with hamsters and beavers. It was just for fun. We really had to rely on the advice of our editor, Sierra Hahn. But I wouldn't turn down a cupcake. Janet: I mostly drink flavored seltzer, and if you give me a Snickers bar, I'm brilliant. Do you have advice for anyone who would like to write a book with their mother or daughter? Alex: Do it! It's pretty special for me to have a book on my shelf with my name right next to my mom's.

It ranks right up there with shopping for my wedding dress with her. Janet: There will never be any greater achievement in your life than your children. And there is nothing more difficult or rewarding than working with family. Take advantage of the opportunity to write that book together.

Whether your book is published or not, the experience and time spent together will be worth it. Take our poll » Past poll results ». Enter contest here » Past Entries ».
